Below is an estimate as to how much you can save in the short term and long term if you decide to replace your turf.

Replace existing, irrigated lawn with drought-tolerant plants or synthetic turf. 50% of materials cost up to $1 per square foot.

To keep a lawn properly watered and healthy, it is recommended to water your lawn with one inch of water per square foot daily. This expends around 0.623 gallons of water/sq. ft. For an average sized 500 sq ft. lawn, you can save $500 immediately upon replacement and 9,345 gallons of water/month, which will likely drop you into a lower tier in the Soquel Water District's tier system.
